NADMO HOLDS BRIEFING FOR ITS DISASTER MANAGEMENT TEAM

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) held its maiden meeting for district Platform Members at the District Assembly Hall. The primary motive of the meeting was to find possible and lasting solution to the prevailing disaster prone areas as well as activities that could likely contribute to disaster in the district.

Members took turn to outlined and discussed vividly  themes such as chieftaincy challenges, accident spots within the districts, flood areas, unhealthy human disasters, bush and domestic fires, sanitation challenges and other spots that might trigger disaster within the area.

The house deliberated into detail on accidents which were so rampant within the district. Areas considered for deliberation were Mamfe-Koforidua road, the bad nature of Ayenseso bridge, in the course of deliberation, it came to light that the bridge currently seem like a death trap which could possibly lead to a fatal accident any moment soon. Aseseeso-Koforidua road and its surrounding hills towards Somanya were all discussed and that proper and adequate signs were needed to enhance and alert drivers of a particular spot before reaching it.

Also unhealthy human activities within the district were looked at. The stone wining at Adukrom –Aseseeso road as well as Mamfe stone winning were discussed and it was agreed upon that such activity if not properly checked could expose the road to erosion and adversely leading to a possible disaster in future. However the Tsotso accident prone area came to the fore and the house came to a consensus that the district Assembly need to liaise with Tipper Truck Association to get the place filled to reduce the menace. In addition, it was suggested that bamboo grooves should be planted around the place to serve as barricade for vehicles to run into in case of emergency.

Present at the meeting were Nana Ansah Sasraku III- Mamfehene, Aseseesohene, The District Coordinating Director, the police, the Fire Service, NGO Representative, Christian council among others.
